This entry made me laugh out loud so many times -- first when you were shoved off the balcony (akjakhf;a;fg WHY AM I LAUGHING AT THIS?) and then again with the "oh heavens no, not literary fiction" comment. lulz. :'D Chabon and LeGuin are both excellent contemp genre-ish authors, I find I like them because they tell ripping good yarns but their books also remain "literary" in the sense that the quality of the writing is above average too. although, trashy romantic paperbacks for real? I used to read those when I was like 15, and while they do hold a certain titillation factor the writing for paperback romances and most mass market paperbacks at large is unbearably bad 9 times out of 10.
