Help with naming, please?

So, I still haven't named the main character in my story, and I'm looking for a good name. Here are my criteria:

- it does not need to be discernably female, but it shouldn't sound obviously male either
- it can be long, but if it is it has to have a short nickname
- it can sound girly as long as it has a nickname that sounds less girly
- it can be normal, but not too normal
- it should not start with T, D, O, S, or A (I already have characters with names that start with those letters)
- props if it sounds vaguely futuristic (because it is)

Right now, here are a few names I'm pondering:

- Kae : really simple but I like the spelling, maybe if I can find a name that would have "Kae" as a logical nickname
- Kasta : has the short, semi-harsh consonant sounds I'm looking for, and is short
- Kituria : I just like the way it's written, if I could find a nickname from it then I'd probably use it
- Aphra : I dunno, I sort of like it...a little soft, though

I'm thinking I really like Kae as a nickname, but I need a name that that could be taken from. Anyone with ideas at all regarding names...I thank you all for your help!

Liking Zoe as a name, though not for this character...it actually sounds more like this character's sister, come to think of it, who I sort of named Kristin already, but I don't like that as a name too much. And Zeth & Eth would be cool nicknames...I love collaborative thinking!

I'm pretty sure I'm using Kae for my character's name, though. I started using it, just to experiment, and it fits...but I'm also thinking increasingly about stealing Zoe to use for her older sister. Thanks muches for the help!

No problem! Should I name my bench?

Your bench should totally be named Bob. Or something else common.

Frank? Fred? John? I don't know, for some reason I think a bench should have a strong, traditional name.

Of those choices, I'd go with William.

More are welcome, I dunno... I want something long and nice, but traditional... you know? Like, Joseph.

Joseph would work.

Richard, Henry, Thomas, Christopher, Matthew, Mark, Luke (it's the Gospels!) ...

Oh! I like Richard... and Christopher. Thanks Candace!
