Making things, baking things: last night's dinner

So like I said in my previous post, I'm going to very interpret the "something" in the title of "National Create Something Month" very loosely...mostly for the sake of days like yesterday, when the only thing I created was dinner.

But trust me -- it was a good dinner.

There's a restaurant about ten minutes' walk from my apartment called Kitchenette that does the best savory breakfasts. Possibly the best sweet breakfasts, too, but I love them for things like biscuits and eggs and home fries. On weekday mornings, you can get the "Kitchenette Special" for $7.50: biscuit, bacon, two eggs, cheese, and coffee. (This is a steal in Manhattan.) My biscuits might not be quite as good as theirs, but we had heavy cream and I decided I would whip up a very easy biscuit recipe (five ingredients, less than 20 minutes!) and have Kitchenette Specials for dinner.

Kitchenette Special:

1. Whip up a batch of Smitten Kitchen's Cream Biscuits: The only ingredients are flour, salt, baking powder, sugar (optional) and heavy cream. They take less than twenty minutes to make, start to finish. The recipe suggests dipping the biscuits in melted butter before cooking, but that gets another pot dirty and I don't think it adds substantially to their taste.

2. While biscuits are cooking, cook bacon. I tend to do this on the stovetop but if you're feeding the masses you could easily do it in the oven (and I bet the biscuits would taste bacony if you did them at the same time...mmm!).

3. After the bacon is done and the biscuits are cooling, prepare your eggs. I prefer scrambled, [personal profile] pedantic_wretch and [personal profile] oliviacirce

I suppose we could also count it as working towards creating something that I spent part of last night watching a punk rock band documentary and thinking about how I want to write a Romantic poets rock band AU...

For the record, I think your biscuits may have been better than Kitchenette's. <3

I like food. Yeah, I'm not entirely certain what the format of this challenge should be, but it has only been a few days so I guess we'll just see what happens! And concurrent cooking is awesome, so is concurrently cleaning up/washing dishes/pots you are done with. Also Romantic poets rock band in Australia?

So I totally just created a dreamwidth account so I could comment here (also don't have an openID and was too lazy to figure out how to create one).

My original comment was going to be something along these lines: YUMYUMYUMYUMYUM. Honestly, I have no suggestions for how to make this "creation" better. Except for chocolate. Because, you know, everyone loves chocolate.
