Girly moment...

So I just finished watching Pride and Prejudice (the newer version). *lets out dreamy sigh* I love love, you know that? Watching an unlikely romance unfold never ceases to increase my confidence in the goodness of the world. I think there's something so human about love. I think I would even say that it's what defines us, as a species. It's not the fact that we can think, or that we're sentient (because some monkeys are, too). No. It's the depth of caring we can have for another individual, or a whole group of individuals. In my mind, that's the distinction.

“Humans are brought up with the literature and legends of love. We hope it lives up to its promise; we dream all our lives of finding that one great love.” --Jason Morgan, from To Trade the Stars

Not a bad idea for what makes us human, but (very unfortunately) altruism is an illusion. :-(

That's part of the evolution, though, innit? You can change that. Make it real.
