A poem in time for Valentine's day...
Feb. 14th, 2008 01:41 pmSo I wrote this a while ago (actually as a class assignment--we had to mimic the sonnets of Charlotte Smith) but I stumbled across it right now and I really like it. I hadn't remembered the part where I really liked it. Probably not the kindest poem for Valentine's day but I really enjoy the craft of it and I figured I'd post it here.
The trickster Springtime enters with the heat
That moves the newly opened buds to burst,
And loves all lovers, though they be coerced
By siren songs and hearts that gently beat.
The season takes the world within its arms
To offer up a span of timeless days
Throughout which young loves grow and old ones blaze
In concordance with nature’s fleeting charms.
The winds of Autumn come too soon for some,
Their chilly fingers cooling heated hearts,
But as for me, I envy Autumn’s arts:
Though fallen, it hates not what it’s become.
So lovers may see Spring as best of all,
But I covet the honesty of Fall.
