Procrastinating seems
a good idea aroundabout now, so I
surf the net, looking for nothing
in particular; checking up on some
old favorites. And then
there it is -- in its green-blue-black glory --
the site which inspires me, the only one
to which (it might be said, I suppose)
I aspire. To sit there one day and
look at it not
as an inactive bystander, but instead
to read down the submission
guidelines as a checklist, marking them all off
one by one: manuscript, double-spaced and
correctly labeled; cover letter, professional; wordcount,
over 80,000 where no novel of mine
has ever gone before but
where I keep telling myself they will
go, if enough time's put into them. Then will come
the day when I can look at
the link to "author sites" and
click on it and scroll the list until
look -- there's me! yes, me, next to all the sf greats,
my name on the list, listed with
all of those people I wanted to be (and still
want to be) for so long...but I know -- I
must know -- I won't get to there by
procrastinating...

My thoughts on the website that I have a tendency to visit whenever I'm tired, or bored, or have nothing else to do, or need inspiration/elevation/perspiration. www.dawbooks.com: the website of the company that (so I've always told myself) will publish my book someday. As this idea gets closer and closer to reality, I think more and more about what it will be like when that day appears, but in the end I have to admit to myself that I won't know until I get there. But that's not a problem -- it just means I'll have to get there all the more quickly.
