Some books are just so damn good that you sit down at the end of them and wonder why they're over. Why did the author even stop? Didn't they know that they could have kept on writing forever and I would follow them gladly off into that future with nothing but their words as my guide? Didn't they know that I would not be the only one?

Writing has such power over me, and over others. My Pied Piper would be a writer, no doubt about it -- the right words would seduce me into becoming a part of anyone's following. Which, I suppose, can be considered a bad thing. Someone with a grasp on speech and rhetoric can convince me to do whatever they'd like. But I'd also say that if we don't allow ourselves to be swayed by words in the form of literature, then what do we think is an acceptable medium for such coercion and temptation? And we all, at some time or another, need to be tempted the way that the allure of a good book calls to me; I'm sure of it.

Literature: my drug of choice.
