You're not afraid to be yourself. This sounds like a total cliche, but you go beyond that and really try to figure out who you are. You're very direct about who you are, what you mean, and what you want. Yet at the same time the directness isn't off-putting -- some people who are very direct are also very intolerant, and that's not a word I'd ever use to describe you. You're open to lots of things because you know that most things are worth trying once, even if only to have the experience. You're very thoughtful -- you spend time pondering over questions that lots of people don't even think to ask. Some people might be frightened of you, but they don't have any reason to be. You're generally a kind person, and you have a good sense for what other people are like.

You've struggled with things I don't even know about, but it's made you who you are. Not everything in your life has happened the way you wish it would, but you haven't let that get you down. You're a writer, a good and dedicated one, and although you might not feel like you're as good or as dedicated as you wish you were, you're well on the road to being successful. You're able to carry out long-term projects, like the story you've been writing with your friend. You're willing and ready to learn from inspiring teachers, in both the conventional sense and in a more loose definition of the profession. Some other people might not understand you, but those who do can't help but love you for your unique personality traits and skills, and the refreshing spin you often put on things. No one but you could have thought of an Edgar Allen Poe world inhabited by a little boy named Milo who had literally lost his heart! You're not easy to pigeonhole into any specific category, though most people who see you regularly but don't know you probably try and fail to make you fit some cliche. You know how to laugh, and you're easy to talk to.

You are bold. You might not know everything, but you know who you are and you don't let other people try to make you into something different. You have many talents and many passions, which you absorb yourself in wholeheartedly. Some people might call them obsessions, but that implies there's no real cause for your devotion when the reality is far from that. Where you love, you love fiercely and act upon it. You might seem guarded to others, but you usually open up to your friends. Shannen, I'm constantly amazed by how many opportunities you have ahead of you.

You're as quirky as your favorite girl with the raddish earrings, but in the best of ways! You're always excited and ready to feel emotions strongly. Whenever I see you, you're smiling a wonderful, wide smile that makes me happy. Not everything about your life is easy, but you handle the obstacles that come your way with great maturity and usually more laughter.

The ability to think rationally, and the inclination to do so about everything you come across, has both blessed and cursed you. It keeps you from feeling secure in who you are and how the universe works, and sometimes the weight of this lack of understanding presses down on you and makes your world seem unreal. But at the same time, only the thinkers can ever have the opportunity to know, and you press on, not because it's painless, but because you need to have the answer -- or at least the next question. You don't have the most accurate view of your own strengths; there are many things you're better at than you think you are. You're a good person, and while I can't speak for other people, you've always been there for me when I needed you. You're scattered when it comes to schoolwork, but I suspect it's because you're looking for something more important than learning that's confined to a classroom. You're certainly on a journey. Best luck on your travels.

You're a stronger person than I think most people would have suspected. I would like to say I've always known this, but I haven't. I don't understand those people who treat you as something fragile since your diagnosis; if anything, I think your handling it has forged in you an iron determination that was only present below the surface before. But that's only part of who you are -- only a base upon which other things must rest. You have a quirky sense of humour -- yes, the spelling's like that because it's often British humour! -- and you recommend the greatest movies (we still have to watch "Murder by Death"). You're an amazingly talented costume designer and if you don't go to work in theater someday, it'll only be because you decide to do something else. For you, Christianity is a faith before it's a religion, and you're not afraid to speak out against things you feel are hindering your understanding of and connection to your Lord. I admire so many things about you, especially the strength of your faith.
