I don't like writing  things that I don't think are particularly good.  I'd absolutely love it if there were some way to write a book or a story or a poem or an essay or a paper or really anything without going through the awkward first draft stage.  I hate first drafts.  I wrote a poem once about revision that focused on the fact that "the first draft of anything is shit."  (I think that might be a Hemingway quote, though I'm not fully sure.)

I should stop complaining and start writing, but I really don't feel like it.  I should beat myself up because it doesn't matter what I feel like doing, it matters what I have to do, and I have to write this by Wednesday, and this is just procrastination.  And I'm gonna stop right now.

Ah, how true you are. I'm working through the first draft right now. She's still not into Bath yet, but it'll happen soon enough. I've decided to eschew the letter format and I think I've got a good feel for her voice now. Instead I'm telling it in first person, and perhaps in present tense. Tentatively so.
