Um. Okay. That's a strange question for you.

Sincerely though? I'm glad I wasn't really alive during the Cold War, but I don't think that the world's threat level has lessened since then. Maybe I'm glad the Cold War is over, but the mentality of the Cold War -- of Us vs. Them -- hasn't changed. We've just redefined the categories.

The Cold War went on as long as it did because propaganda machines in both Russia and America drove it. Let's not make that mistake again.

Do you think that there isn't the same kind of propaganda pervading our media? I dunno... I don't think I know enough specifics about the Cold War to say, but I do think that propaganda today plays a far larger role in how we form our opinions of the world than most people would like to admit.

In my head, the last line of this entry was dripping with sarcasm. I completely think that we're making the same mistake now...allowing the media and the people in "authority" to tell us what to think and feel about everything. We've let propaganda into every aspect of our lives and most people don't even realize it.

"Let's not make that mistake again."

Oops. Too late. Mainstream America is all about Us Vs Them. No, that's not fair: mainstream civilization is about Us Vs Them. The good news is, "the revolution starts when you change your mind." Don't sign a petition, don't blow stuff up... change your mind about Us and Them and Act on it.

To the end of propaganda and the media (particularly visual media) you should be around for one of my visual media raps. I mostly communicate person-to-person now, but my visual media ideas are starting to come together so cohesively that I might have to sit down and write them out... Not that they have anything to do with what you've written here...

I'd like to see that rap. :)

And as I said before...when I was writing that last line, in my head it was full of sarcasm, which apparently did not really translate to the page. Obviously the world is still Us vs. Them. We haven't learned a thing.

For as much as I use sarcasm and as much as my sarcasm is misinterpreted as straight, I should be better at identifying it.
