I am waiting and ready for it to really be spring, instead of just lulling me into skirts and tank tops and sandals with the sunny day and blossoming cherry-trees outside my window before reminding me with a gust of cold air that I can't say goodbye to sweaters quite yet. I want the feeling of liveliness that comes with the spring--the sunburns I'll undoubtedly fend off, the late nights where it doesn't get dark and the early mornings where the sun on the dew in the grass makes it sparkle. The clear skies and the ocean back home, the sticky heat of Italian cobblestoned streets and the mischievousness of a London summer shower, the feel of rocks stuck between my feet and my sandals--this is what I miss, what I want. To stop wearing jeans and start wearing board shorts, to pack away all the sweaters and umbrellas for next year, to study outside in the sunshine.

(I don't know why I am so excited by the beginning of each new season in its turn, but I'm glad to feel this way, and so I won't complain, except to say that it should go ahead and get warm already!)

Exactly what I have been thinking but with less emphasis on skirts. I used to think summer was my favorite season, but now that I know what seasons are, I think spring is my favorite. Maybe it's because winter is finally over, I don't know. Winters here are oppressively dark. After noting that spring (by my definition) lasts a solid 10 days here, and also noting that it doesn't stop raining until summer, I can deal with that as being a longer close second best.

Isn't summer the cold part of the year on the Bay? Or is that just in SF?

Eh, really *any* part of the year can be cold here, and spring comes only sporadically, but it's not so bad. When I have to pick a favorite season, I pick autumn, but most of the places I've lived, autumn might be just as warm as spring, so it's not so much a weather thing as where the weather happens in the year (if that makes sense).

I love the springtime, and I most certainly can't wait for the specific hue of blue that comes with it. The air itself feels different, even without the zephyrs going through it...and I simply can't wait.

[I also -feel- the springtime...one of the benefits of SAD or something.]

Curious...have you felt the flow of change lately?

I completely know what you mean about the blue. The thing is I keep *thinking* it's come and then walking out of my room and ohcrapit'scold.

I don't know if I'm feeling change on any level greater than my own personal world, but on that level alone I'm definitely feeling it.

Everyone is going through personal changes --this is what I mean. They're all personal, but there is a great flow that we're being swept up in.

Things are turning right now, and no one is watching. I am not a big fan of Obama, but he is doing a lot single-handedly to end the crimes in Iraq and Guantanamo. People are (maybe??) thinking twice about the greed of the earlier part of this decade and the consequences of that greed. Young people are experimenting with their lifestyles and beliefs. The difference is, we're not telling anyone (because we want to go back to the "straight" world after college), and we're not doing it cohesively. At the same time, we're acutely aware that we're committing global suicide and we're less concerned about it.

There is always that current of change -- nothing lasts! -- but things are coming to a head now. I get the sense that personal events are mirroring global ones and that we're either on the verge of a breakthrough or a breakdown.

I am really digging seeing the blue sky again this week, but my happiness at the end of the 6 month-long overcast period is tempered by temperatures in the 30s.
