Oh man, I feel like someone just massacred my fictional children. Or like I just came home, only no one in my family or my hometown recognized me. THAT is how sledgehammer-y the ending of Julie E. Czerneda's Stratification trilogy is. I'm sitting here dazed and confused and with an odd aching emptiness that's all the more strange for the way that it's not supposed to be there. She's not supposed to leave me empty -- she's supposed to fill me. It's what I depend upon her fiction for. But this time, it didn't work. Maybe it wasn't supposed to work? I don't know. But I've never left one of her books feeling this low before.

*rants*

*exhales deep sigh*

*shakes self out of it*

Hm, probably I'll go on a run. It seems like the only viable solution.

When emotion dictates. Usually I run when I want to relax my mind and do something purely physical -- since I spend so much of my time relaxing my body and doing things purely mental. Even then, I still like to listen to music or audiobooks when I run or work out.

I haven't even read the second one yet!

I think I'm really going to like it if it left you that empty. I mean, that's not just disappointed, that's bibliodepression or something! If that was intentional, that's some writing.

(Or there's the Animorphs ending—but wait, no, you didn't read them.)

Besides, cheer up? There's still two or three Unifications to tie off the series for real. And I don't think she can leave it open this time.

I think part of the problem is that the second book in the series is totally my favorite, rocked my socks off, etc. etc. and I was expecting this one to be as good as it, if not better. As it is, it's weird to think that she'll never write more about Aryl and Enris, that *this* is how she left them. I wanted a few more answers (and okay, maybe I just want her to keep writing about Aryl a little more, I really like her!).

One thing I will say, I am now looking even MORE forward to the Reunification trilogy (I think it's supposed to be a trilogy?). Seeing Sira and Morgan again should be interesting -- as should finally getting the answers to all of these questions!
