Stephanie. I was thinking of you and your parkbench today, and I had an urge to draw something (which is unusual--I'm only an artist with words). But I tried, and I don't think it's too bad. However, I don't want to try coloring it in yet and messing it up. Nevertheless, here it is.

I didn't shade much, and my lines are light so it might be difficult to see...but I did my best. I hope you like it, Steph--this one's for you.

It's beautiful! ...wow, it made me cry! I love it so much! I love that Richard (the bench) is seperate from everything else, because that's his inner struggle. He's so far... and yet... a part.

And you're beautiful for making Africa the center of the globe. Wow! Thank you! Thank you so much!

Last year during the end of school, I just had a vision of this bench sitting in space. And for once, I wanted to *draw* it, rather than write about it. But I didn't think myself capable of drawing. It's amazing how much a month in an art class can change you. I finally felt confident enough to draw it, and I'd been thinking about NaNoWriMo...so Richard was on my mind.

The image of viewing *anything* from the moon is also something that seems to be very prevalent in my written work -- I'm actually writing a college admissions essay about it.

Africa's the center of the globe because the first photo ever taken of Earth from space was taken at a time when that was the only portion of the globe that could be seen. I actually drew it from a picture I found in the newspaper a week or so ago (I cut it out because it was beautiful, not realizing that I would have a use for it). But when you look at it that way...that's an interesting way to perceive it, too. Thank you for thinking I'm intentionally beautiful.

I'm glad you like it. There are people who are so good that they should be made inexplicably happy every once in a while. You deserve it more than every once in a while -- I'm just working to get in my fair share!

Africa deserves to be at the center now. It's not. For most people, it's not even on the map.

"Who's Darfur?"

Am I correct in remembering that you did a Darfur-related something recently?

We did a fundraiser last year with MUN -- we sold green "save Darfur" wristbands, and chocolate. We actually managed to rake in a fair bit of change, from what I remember.

And yes, Africa deserves the spotlight. Steph's comment totally got me thinking about the irony of that first picture of Earth...

Also: you named... a park bench. You don't give yourself enough credit for being cool. Seriously.

Well, I *helped* name the park bench. Steph wanted it to sound somewhat sophisticated, yet at the same time normal. She also did National Novel Writing Month, and Richard played a large part in her novel.

She's actually a Floridian, though in a different part of Florida, methinks.

I think we've discussed this before. Did you say she lived in Palm Beach or somewhere on the west coast?

And, by the way, I can't even draw a perfect circle, so...

I showed my mom- of course, because she wanted to know why I was sobbing and smiling at the same time...

I'm such a drama queen.

Um...the circle was drawn with the help of a compass. I don't draw perfect circles, either. :)

You're not a drama queen. You just know how to feel, and you're not afraid of expressing emotions. I think that's far from being a drama queen. (Personally, I love a good cry -- the happy kind -- though they don't come too often, usually at the end of a really good book.)
