The entire point of this entry is to announce to the world that I really like the name Mephistopheles. It just rolls off the tongue. Try it: Mephistopheles. I even like typing it!

Too bad it's another name for Satan. It severely limits my ability to use the name for a character in a story -- unless, of course, I do the great religious novel I've never known I've always wanted to write, and he's a character?

That could be done.

Mephistopheles is one of my favourite names when it comes down to the Devil.

And for Hell, I love Gehenna and Sheol. (:

We are in agreement! "Gehenna" is another cool one.

If you throw the word "Mister" in front, it would refer to a cat.

You can use it outside of a religious context for a villian, or if desire to throw people off, use it for a protagonist. It doesn't have to be religious allegory, but I'm going to say it's either got to be a nickname or in some work of sci-fi or fantasy.

I can *definitely* imagine it as a cat's name. Which is funny, and which the devil probably doesn't find flattering.

It doesn't have to be a religious allegory, but I've been wanting to write one for a while so it might be worth it to save it for then.
