To those of you who know Mr. Vargish

Okay, so I'm getting together my costume for tomorrow, and it feels almost right...but there's something missing, and I don't know what. I'm pretty sure I've told most of you, but I'm dressing up as Mr. Vargish for this year. So far, my costume consists of:

--jeans that don't go quite long enough and therefore show my ankles
--a collared shirt
--a crew-neck sweatshirt worn over the collared shirt, so that the shirt collar sticks up
--brown socks (to match the shirt collar)
--Teva sandals
--white shell necklace
--pocket Constitution
--hippie glasses (unfortunately with purple lenses)

The sweatshirt's a Stanford one, so I have to fix that...I'll end up making a sign for it that says "Saddleback," if I find time tonight. But somehow, what with all the Vargishy things, I'm worried that no one will know who I'm supposed to be.

What are hippie glasses?

I've been thinking about getting new glasses, partly because my right eye is being unfriendly and partly because I should have tiny, round glasses that sit at the tip of my nose.

They aren't really "hippie glasses," they're round-rimmed & look just like the ones that this particular teacher wears (except for the fact that his don't have purple lenses). Mr. Vargish is undoubtedly a child of the sixties, a real-life hippie if there ever was one, so we joke about it.

hmm yeah i dunno. it sounds like a hippie more than like vargish, whos semi-hippie and semi-historian... keep the socks pulled high. i like the pocket constitution. hair style? briefcase? maybe you should perfect your slang/walk/mannerisms that complete all that is Vargish, but make sure to not disrespect him (not that you would, but just keep it in mind.) hope i helped a little. i look forward to seeing the result.

definitely pull hair back tight. never had Vargish, so I couldn't tell you beyond that :)
