So here's the updated NaNo bio --
From a young age, Candace's career goals have destined her for poverty. A freshman English major at UC Berkeley, her greatest ambition is to make a living as a published novelist. She refuses to admit that this is an unreasonable goal, because it isn't. On days when she admits that making money as a writer will be difficult, she considers the idea of teaching English -- which, coincidentally, also doesn't pay. When not reading or writing, she releases her energies by knitting scarves, traveling with her family, and obsessing over musical theater.
And the picture to go with it -- can be found here. I'd post it in the entry, but photobucket is acting up.

Date: 2007-09-09 09:03 am (UTC)I have a feeling that fate has great things in store for you.
[Also...this might seem random, but would it be possible to commission you for a scarf sometime? I'm rather fond of those really long ones that I believe you've made, and I don't have one of my own. Also, I don't know how to knit, and I am rather lazy. ::sigh::]

I don't have much access to yarn at the moment but if you tell me what to look for and how big you want it, I can make you a scarf no problem. If you had specific yarn in mind, you could buy that and send it to me and I could make you a scarf out of it. I'm not about to charge you for anything (other than materials fee if it's pricey yarn).

Yarn...will you tell me about the differences between the main types of yarn that you've been able to work with? I tried researching, but I honestly have no idea where to even start, so I ended up a little dumbfounded. Guh. Though...for length? I'd like a long scarf. Perhaps something like this:

Or this?:

I don't know why, but I love long scarves that have a high risk of decapitation, not unlike Casanova...! Oh dear, even that was a bit too morbid for me. Though I understand you are busy, so if that's too much, I can understand and I'd like you to let me know. I feel so selfish asking you, guh. But still, I would be more than happy to cover materials and to actually pay for the time you spend on it. This really means much to me, you know? And I would like to be able to do something in return, to make things even out a little somehow.
[also...would it be okay to have it in black...? I feel like I'm asking for a lot. :\]

The type of yarn will affect the thickness and texture of the scarf. If you want a big warm black scarf, pick a yarn that's thicker; if you don't want something too thick, then get a yarn that's not so thick. I think what I'm calling "thickness" is actually referred to as "weight," so if you see a description of a yarn's "weight," I think that's what they mean?
I don't actually know where I can buy yarn around here. The only place I've found is a dollar store, and understandably they don't have the best selection!
I use Lion Brand Yarn a lot. Most of their yarns are great -- here are a few you might like:
Homespun -- http://cache.lionbrand.com//yarns/homespun.htm
Jiffy -- http://cache.lionbrand.com//yarns/jiffy.htm
Once you figure out which yarn you want to use we can figure out how to get it to me and how much of it I'll need to make a single scarf.

Date: 2007-09-24 09:21 pm (UTC)Hmm...something warm and cozy is ideal, and something that can withstand rain well enough is preferred. But at the same time, I don't want it to break my neck with its weight, I suppose.
The first one seems very soft and thick...which is something I like. Do you think it'd be a burden on my neck, though?
I've also shown interest in their cotton yarn, since cotton promotes homeostasis...though I don't know how it would work against rain. Hmm. Any thoughts?
