I guess this means I got things done today.  I spent a few hours studying Russian history this morning with a woman from my class and got some stuff done, though now I've also got a lot more things to do.  We decided we'd go through the IDs early and we're doing a lot of preparation for things like the essays.  I'm meeting with her again Wednesday morning and we'll see how it goes from there.

Major list cross-off is that I finally figured what story I'm going to submit for Clarion along with "Fire and Ice."  Of course it's the one I was so certain I was least likely to send, but after I re-read "Cold War, Cold World" for the first time in I'm not sure how long, I realized that I like it.  It's rough in places but it's the easiest to patch over the course of the next week.  I can tell you a billion things that are wrong with it but hopefully people will get too caught up in the story to really care.  (Let's just say I'm glad I can't take this into my fiction class to get workshopped -- they'd rip it into small, predictable pieces.)

I've (of course and as usual) got other things to do.  I'm halfway through Hamlet again and it makes me think of Mr. Krucli.  I sent him an e-mail the other day to let him know how helpful his class has been for me.  Seriously, he's the reason why I'm making it through my Shakespeare class this semester.  Or at least one of the reasons.

I leave you on this note: A Knight's Tale (the movie) is so much funnier when you've read Chaucer.

Okay so I lied and I'm not needing you.  I need a better title for "Cold War, Cold World" and also anyone who feels they have enough time to read it between now and Tuesday to give me suggestions on what to fix should e-mail / comment / call so that I can send you the newest copy.  That's all.

But oooh guess what? I saw Mr. Krucli at Target today! :D

Hah, a Krucli sighting! That man is crazy awesome and I'm stealing him to teach my children.

I'll e-mail you the story then (I'm assuming that's what the assertion of your literacy was about - if it's just a celebration of your abilities, feel free to ignore the e-mailed story). :D

Hahahahaha, it was asking to read it, as WELL as a celebration. You know, literacy is a pretty awesome ability.... :D

I used to have a Paul Frank shirt that said "GO READ A BOOK" on the back in large letters, and the front said, "if you're illiterate, you can't read this!" It was the greatest thing ever...I wonder what happened to it, come to think of it...

Thanks for reading the story!

Rewritten?

Well, cool, glad you decided. If it's changed significantly I'd be happy to read the new version and comment. (Seriously, it's an excuse not to study for math.)

Ten-second title suggestion: "Outside Influence" (or "Influences"). Think about it BEFORE reading my reasoning, because obviously the title has to stand on its own.

Reason (highlight to see): the reason a cold war erupts into hot war is when something from outside triggers a change, in this case the new chemical, and then the traitor Tanaka is an outside influence on/for the Western allies. (spoilers end here)

Another title: "Unforeseen Consequences" (or "Unintended"). This one has the problem of not being what the story's about, though.

OK, yeah, send me the new version if you want me to read it.

Shoot, the info hiding didn't work as well as planned. Why does your text color have to be dark grey instead of black?

Ah well...

Hah, don't worry -- I get e-mail notification of new comments and in my e-mail the black-on-black thing worked nicely. :) I'm not completely sure what I think of "Outside Influence" but it's better than what's there at present!

I haven't really revised it much (definitely not enough to justify your reading it again). I'm going to go back through the comments you made and rework a few things though before I send it out to anyone else. If something big or exciting happens to it I'll let you know!

Aw don't worry, I understand that everyone else is as busy as I am. If someone asked me to read a short story for them right now I'm not sure I'd have the time! Thanks as usual though for the encouragement -- it's nice to be reminded that I have a loyal readership :p
